The next author in the spotlight, 6 - Time Author, Grahame Peace. With his latest book, A Journey into Fashion: The Dressing Room.
TW: What is your writing process?
GP: I am
disciplined in terms of how I write; I write most days for several hours. I
also, do a lot of research for my books in terms of facts and history; although
my books are fiction and fantasy, I want them to be as historically and
factually accurate as possible.
TW: How
difficult was it to write your story?
GP: I’m
currently working on my seventh book, which is the fifth in my Ghost from the
Molly-House series. Each book in the series gets harder to write in terms of
coming up with new ideas. That’s why historical research is so important; it
often drives the concept for a new story or stories. My stories are set in
different time periods, places, and countries.
TW: What is
your hope for this project?
GP: Hopes? That people
will like it, enjoy it, spread word of my work, and want to read the whole
series, and all my books.
TW: Do have
plans for writing more books?
GP: Yes, I can’t imagine a time now
when I won’t be writing, as I say, it’s just coming up with new ideas. I
already have an idea for a new book; in my book ‘The Psychic Agency’ there is a character called Patrina Fletcher who’s a social media and reality TV star, she
was great fun to write, I’m planning on doing a book about her crazy life, she’s
very ‘2019’!
TW: What is
your favorite genre of books and do you plan on venturing in those areas?
GP: I like books that offer
entertainment and escapism; we live in such difficult times. I want books to educate
me but also take me on an amusing journey. I guess that’s what I try to write
myself. I also like biographies and autobiographies.
TW: What do
you want readers to know about you?
GP: I’m 61
years old and live in the Northern Textile Town of Huddersfield in England. Nursing
is my background, and for most of my working life I worked in Mental Health
services, so I know all about the ups and downs ‘life’ can throw at people. I
retired nearly five years ago and have been writing for the past six years. I
have a keen interest in the high-end fashion industry and the history of
fashion, I have written two fictional books about fashion, but fashion has a
way of creeping into all my books, as does my hometown of Huddersfield.
TW: Do you
have a favorite author or book?
GP: No, I don’t think I have, I enjoy
the classics, but I also like the pace of a Dan Brown book. Now, I’m reading a
book by Darcy Coates, which I’m really enjoying. I don’t like anything too dark
in terms of violence, gore, bad language, etc.
TW: What does
literary success look like to you?
GP: Good
question! I think I’m still finding my way and learning; writing is a
difficult, overcrowded, competitive profession, I’m still trying to build my
readership and following, it takes time. Success for me would be increased book
sales and of course, people enjoying my work.
TW: What is
the most difficult part of your artistic process?
GP: As I’ve already
said coming up with an idea and plotting out the story, the marketing side is
also tough and time-consuming these days, you have to be visible on so many social
media and book platforms; they all require constant attention.
TW: How has
this book changed your life?
GP: I’m
working on my fifth Ghost from the Molly-House book; it follows on from my last
book in the series ‘The Psychic Agency. Because my books focus on actual
history and places, I always learn a lot. For example, the story I’m working on
now is set in Wiltshire in England, and although it’s set in the present day,
it also involves the Anglo Saxons.
TW: What advice
do you have for an aspiring writer?
GP: Writing is
very exposing; it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and be
judged. Don’t do it because you want to be rich and famous, do it for the love
of writing. You may become rich and famous, but as I’ve said, it’s a very overcrowded,
competitive market. Write for the love of writing, and because you want to tell
your story.
TW: Do you
have any future events or updates we should know about?
GP: I’m busy
with my new book, which I hope will be out later this year on Amazon.
TW: How can we
contact you and purchase your book?
GP: All my books are available
worldwide on Amazon.

Your comment about writing being 'very exposing' is so true, Graham. It really is like putting your baby out there to be judged by the world! I'm interested in your background, too - I imagine working in mental health will have given you an insight into people's psychology? All the best with your books and the current work.
