Authors in the Spotlight - Eyannie A. Gomez and Shantia Benson

Meet this mother-daughter duo who created a book about 11-year-old author Eyannie A. Gomez's true life events!

TW: What is your writing process?

SB: I like to think about all the stories I can tell and the different ways I can tell it. I like to write down character names and different settings I may use.

TW: How difficult was it to write your story?

SB: It was kind of difficult because I had to figure out a cool Title for my book. Most of the stories in my book are inspired by my true life events so I had to change the character names and figure out what stories from my life I wanted to use

TW: Do have plans of writing more books?

SB: Yes, I do. It's in the planning stages.

TW: What is your favorite genre of books and do you plan on venturing in those areas?

SB: I like fiction / non-fiction - adventure. I'm just starting so anything is possible.

TW: What do you want readers to know about you?

SB: I'm a smart, fun-loving kid that enjoys writing and also have a passion for fashion design. I have a creative imagination and I enjoy spending time with my family.

TW: Do you have a favorite author or book?

SB: Dork Diaries is one of my favorite books.

TW: Did you notify your family that you were writing your book before you started? If so, what was their reaction?

SB: I told my mom I was writing a book so she encouraged me to complete my book and  also told me I should write a book that means something to me

TW: What does literary success look like to you?

SB: When people recognize me and tell me they have read my book and that they enjoyed it. When people are looking for a second book from me.

TW: What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?

SB: Picking out the strings and making sure all the pieces of the story fit together so that the story is understood

TW: How has this book changed your life?

SB: It boosted my self-confidence. I accomplished one of my goals so I now know if I accomplished this anything is possible.

TW: Do you have any future events or updates we should know about?

SB: No events but I'm so happy to tell everyone that I made the front cover of the NEXTGEN MAGAZINe. It's a county magazine in my hometown
